1989 Mercedes 560 SEL

The W126 body style for the S-Class was in development for 6 years under the leadership of Bruno Sacco prior to its introduction in 1979 and was in continuous production with various upgrades until 1991 (a testament to its timeless style).

The automobile you see is a 1989 560SEL (extended wheelbase) with the M117 5.6 litre V-8 that was introduced in 1986. It was at the time, the “top-of-the-line” and most expensive Mercedes sedan you could purchase. The engine generated 272 horsepower and the drivetrain was silky smooth and the car was fast and nimble for its size.

The color is Desert Taupe Metallic with a brown leather interior.

Jim purchased this one-owner car from Dean Laumbach, one of the leading classic Mercedes experts in the country and a contributing editor to Sports Car Market Magazine.

he previous owner was Phil Schepel of Colts Neck New Jersey, a very successful business man and also producer of the Tony Award winning Broadway musical “Memphis.” The car had been 31,000 miles in 33 years and was in perfect condition, having never been exposed to a harsh winter.
